I built my own full chassis '68 Firebird with a Chris Alston Kit using the eliminator II. It was an excellent kit, although there are of course quite a few pieces of tube that you have to put a notch on one end to fit your car, it was very straight forward. The instructions supplied are well written and have great pics. Using the mild steel kit all you really need is a good mig welder and grinder and miscellaneous hand tools. Keep in mind NRHA requires TIG weld only if you go chrome-moly
A very important item is a very flat slab to put the car up on stands where you can leave it while everything is mocked and preferably final welded. The key to a nice launching chassis is getting it square the first time.
I literally built mine in a barn/shop but I had a great flat slab.
This was my first full chassis fabrication and it was a cake walk.
It was a lot of work, about two weeks of me and a buddy working 5 hours a night five days a week. The tin work took the longest.
Getting tubs up in those compound curves of a f-body G.M. car is a pain in the A$$.
I set up the four link per the instructions.
First time i took the car out i did a real soft launch at first and four runs later I ran a 10.54. That was with a 509.
The chassis has never looked back.
I just put together a new 555 from Shafiroff and i already have a standing appointment with the dry cleaner cause this new motor is over 950 horsepower, 250 more than the motor I ran last year.
The people at Alston are helpful although a little proud of their freight fees.
Build it yourself if you have the time and space, you'll enjoy the end product a lot more and save some bucks.
Good luck,
John
