After going through all that work and expense I can only hope the mental peace of mind you gained will compensate for and deficiencies in the clamping force of 7/16" vs. 1/2" head studs $400. bucks worth. The tensile strength of a Grade 8 7/16" coarse fastener is 15.900lbs. The same Grade 8 coarse 1/2" fastener is 21,300lbs. So you are definately not going to blow the head off, but how much extra clamping force you can exert to hold the gasket in place is something for an engineer to figure out. I will say this: If 1/2 studs weren't a better deal, I would think that Keith Black, Milodon and Donovan wouldn't bother to use them.
