Frequently Asked Questions

For Viewers: For Owners: If you have a difficulty with Racer's Rides please email the administrator.

What Is Racer's Rides?

Racer's Rides is our version of an online car show. Any viewer can post a photo and specs of their race car for all of our viewers to admire. It is our way of saying thanks for supporting the site and is part of our effort to keep adding new features to the site which are interesting to our audience.

Ask the Owner Questions

There is a lot of opportunity for viewer involvement in Racer's Rides. If the car owner agrees, we provide a mini question and answer board for their car. Viewers can ask the owner questions by email and the questions and the owner's answers are posted on the board.

Rate Each Ride

Viewers can rate each car with one to five stars. We keep track of the total average rating for every car and display the cars in order of rating, five stars first. We also display the top ten cars by rating in all classes and in each individual class on the Racer's Ride Home Page. Viewers can also leave review comments when they leave a rating. These review comments are availble for all to see.

Vote for Your Favorite Rides

Every month each registered viewer gets 5 votes which they can cast for their favorite car or cars. We believe everyone should vote early and vote often! At the end of every month the car with the most votes is declared the winner and gets a $20.00 Speed Shop account credit as a prize. There is also a prize for second and third place.

There's lots more. Each car has a hit counter, so everyone can tell how often the car is viewed. The owner can post detailed performance and technical specs, and go back and update them when they improve times or make changes to the car. There's lots to look at and it's changing all the time. We built Racer's Rides to be fun. We hope you enjoy it!

Do I Need to be a Registered User to View Racer's Rides?

No! You do not need to be a registered user to browse Racer's Rides. You DO need to register if you wish to ask the owner questions, rate and review a Ride, or vote. We require registration for these activities to eliminate crank posts and spam.

How Do I Find a Particular Ride I'm Looking For?

There are many ways to locate a particular Racer's Ride. Probably the fastest is to use the grey Search Bar which appears just under the top navigation links on every Racer's Rides page. Just type in a word describing what you're looking for and hit "Search". There is also an Advanced Search which allows you to specify a rating range and restrict the search to a particular class or sub-class.

While we're on the subject of classes, this is another way to locate cars. All Racer's Rides are listed in a competition class (We use the NHRA competition classes). A list of all the main classes appears on the Racer's Rides Home Page. (The little digits are the number of Racer's Rides in that class). Click on a class and you are taken to another page which lists the sub-classes for that class, again with quantities. If you then click on a sub-class you are taken to a list of Racer's Rides in that sub-class. You can get a complete list of all classes and sub-classes on the Site Map.

Can I Find Out More About a Racer's Ride or Contact the Owner?

Yes, if the owner has agreed to accept question emails when he listed his Ride. If he has there will be a "Ask Question or View Answers" link on the Ride page. Don't ask us, we don't know. Click on the question and answer link and you can ask the owner a question. Your question (and the owner's answer) appear here on a mini message board for the Ride. Although we notify the owner by email of your question you do not receive an email reply, instead the owner posts to this board. Check back at this question and answer board to get the owner's reply.

What Is the "Rating" and What Does It Mean?

Readers are able to rate each Racer's Ride for appearance, performance, construction and preparation, just as if they were judging a car show. The rating system uses one to five stars and the rating displayed with the Ride is the average of all reader ratings. Feel free to rate any Racer's Ride yourself. You can also leave comments for the owner and other viewers. You can also ask the owner a question via privacy email. All questions and answers are posted on a little mini board attached to each Ride. You can also vote every month for up to 5 Rides. Voting is described in the next FAQ.

How does Voting Work and What Is It For?

Every month each registered user gets 5 votes which they can cast for their favorite car or cars. We believe everyone should vote early and vote often! You can cast all 5 for one car if you think it is really something special, or you can cast one vote for 5 cars or anything in between. At the end of every month the car with the most votes is declared the winner and as a prize gets a $20.00 Speed Shop posting credit. We also award second and third place finishers. You can monitor the voting progress during the month at Current Vote Standings and see a list of all past winners at Winning Rides.

How do I Post My Ride?

In order to post your Ride you must have an email address and a picture of your race car on the computer you are using. The picture can be in GIF, JPEG, or Windows BMP format. The picture can be from a digital camera or scanned photograph. If you just have photographic prints of your car find someone with a scanner or try your local copy center. They can usually scan your photo to a floppy disk for you although it will be cheaper to use their self-serve rental computers and do it yourself.

Posting Your Ride is easy. To start, click on Post Your Ride here or at the top or bottom of any Racer's Rides screen. This takes you to a login screen. If you have not already registered click on the Register button (if you have registered just fill in your username and password and go to the next paragraph). You are taken to a form where you enter your desired username and your email address and some basic contact formation. You are then taken back to the login screen with your new username already filled in. Our system emails you your password, usually within a few seconds. Save this email! Cut and paste the password from the email into the login form and hit the Login button. (Later, if you like, you can change your password to something easy to remember using Change Password.)

Once you are logged in you just have to do a simple three step process. In step one you upload your photo. You select the photo file on your system using a normal file selection window. Once the upload is complete you can check the photo and try again if there is a problem. Step two provides you with a form to fill out giving information about your Ride. Only the top half is required, however the more information you can provide the better. The third and final step is to check a preview of your post. If you want to change anything at this point you can go back and modify it. Once you're happy hit the "Add to Racer's Rides" button and your Ride is posted.

If you have agreed, readers can ask email questions. If someone sends you email asking a question, please respond promptly and courteously. Remember, when you receive questions by email you DO NOT REPLY to the email. All questions and your answers are posted on a mini message board attached to your Ride. You go there to post your reply. The email you receive with the question has a link to this question and answer board or you can click on "Ask Question or View Answers" on your Ride. Readers can also rate your Ride and Racer's Rides are listed highest rated first. Viewers can also vote for their favorite Racer's Rides, with a winner selected every month. As a winner you recieve a $20.00 Speed Shop account credit. We also award second place finishers $10.00 in Speed Shop credits and third place finishers $5.00 in Speed Shop credits.

Is There Any Charge for Posting My Ride?

No, absolutely not! In fact, when you post you become eligable for becoming the monthly viewer voting winner and receiving a $20.00 credit towards Speed Shop listings.

Why Do I need To Provide My Contact Information To Be Able to Post?

We require all permanent contributions to the site to be from registered users. This is to prevent junk posts, spam, and all the other bad stuff that can happen if people are allowed to post text and photos without establishing a positive identity. Also, this way we can reward you in case your are our monthly winner by crediting your Speed Shop account.

I Registered but the Post Your Ride Login Won't Accept My Password

The most common reason for this is a typing error. Passwords (and usernames) are case-sensitive, meaning they must be entered using upper and lower case (small and capital letters) just as they appear in your registration email. We use difficult passwords but this makes your personal information on more secure. If you want, you can change your password to something easier to type and/or remember using the Change Password form. You can cut and paste your registration password from the email into this form. You can also have your browser (if it is a recent version) automatically remember your password for you. On Netscape 7.x try Edit | Preferences | Privacy&Security | Passwords. On Internet Explorer 6.0 try Tools | Internet Options | Content | Auto Complete. Consult your browser help for more information.

Can I Change My Racer's Ride Once It Is Posted?

Yes and no. You can change everything except the picture (and we're working on this). You can do this using the Owner Edit link at the bottom of your Ride. You can also delete your Ride at any time should you no longer want it to be available online. You cannot change the photo (for now) so use your best picture!.

Everything I Do Requires a Login, Any Way Around This?

Yes, you can use your browser (if it is a recent version) to automatically fill in your username and password for you on Racer's Rides. On Netscape 7.x try Edit | Preferences | Privacy&Security | Passwords. On Internet Explorer 6.0 try Tools | Internet Options | Content | Auto Complete. Consult your browser help for more information.

We were very security conscious when we built Racer's Rides and we don't want the wrong people to be able to access your information or listings, hence all the logins. We could have used "cookies" to automatically log you in but many people are paranoid about the use of cookies so we decided against it. We may do this in the future. In the meantime, get a recent browser and let it do the login for you.
